17th September, 2015 is the Great day “LORD VISHWAKARMA JAYANTI”

17th September, 2015 is the Great day “LORD VISHWAKARMA JAYANTI” for Industrial Engineers, Technicians, Electricians and all types of workmen in factory.
Lord Vishwakarma, the son of Brahma, is the Divine Architecture, Designer and Engineer of Whole Universe. Vishwakarma is the presiding Deity of all Artisans & Architects and "The Principal Architect of Whole Universe.”
According to hindu scriptures, Lord Vishwakarma designed the triloka and he is the official builder of all the devatas’ palaces. Through the four Yugas, Lord Vishwakarma had built several towns and palaces for the Gods. Among them were, Swarg (Heaven) in the Satya Yuga, Lanka in the Treta Yuga, and Dwarka (Bhagwan Shri Krishna's capital) in the Dwapara Yuga.
According to Greatest Indian Epic RAMAYAN, 'Swarnalanka' or Legendary Golden Lanka that was ruled by Ravan during the treta yuga is also built by Lord Vishwakarma. This is the city where Ravan held Shri Ram’s wife Devi Sita hostage. It is said that when Lord Shiva married to Devi Parvati, he asked Vishwakarma to build a beautiful palace for them to reside in. Vishwakarma built a palace made of Gold. For the housewarming ceremony, Lord Shankar invited the wise Pulastya Rishi (The Grandfather of Kuber and also Ravan) to perform the "Grihapravesh" ritual. After the sacred ceremony when Shiva asked Pulastya Rishi to ask anything in return as “Dakshina”, Pulastya, overwhelmed with the beauty and grandeur of the palace, asked Shiva for the golden palace itself. Lord Shankar was obliged to accede to Pulastya’s wish and the Golden Lanka became his grandson Kuber’s palace. The city of gold is said to have fallen into Ravan’s hands when he overthrew his half brother Kuber.
As per Ramayan story, when Lord Hanuman goes to Lanka in search of Mata Sita and burnt-out Lanka then as per Trilok Vijeta Ravan’s instruction, Vishwakarma re-constructed Lanka as it is within a short period.
During the time of the Greatest Indian Epic MAHABHARAT, Bhagwan Shri Krishna is said to have lived in Dwarka and made it his "Karma Bhumi" (center of operation). For this, Lord Krishna asked Vishwakarma and he had built Dwarka overnight. This land now located in today's Gujarat has become a well known pilgrimage for the Hindus. Vishwakarma also created town of Indraprastha, Hastinapur and Maya Sabha of the Pandavas.
Lord Vishwakarma Jayanti is observed on the Kanya Sankranti Day (September 17) which follows the Ganesh Puja. Lord Vishwakarma is not only worshipped by the engineering and architectural community but also by all professionals like carpenters, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, masons, artists and craftsmen. Vishwakarma Jayanti is celebrated primarily in factories and industrial areas, often on the shop floor, by all industrial houses, fitters, welders, technicians, electricians, mechanics and weavers. It is customary for craftsmen to worship their tools in his name. People pray for a better future, safe working conditions and above all success in their respective fields. Workers also pray for the smooth functioning of various machines. Special statues and pictures of Lord Vishwakarma are normally installed in every workplace in factory and great puja is performed, no work is carried out whole of the day.
